Australia to Poland
Unforgettable Educational and Spiritual Tour (Art, Music, History, Religion, Pilgrimage, Culture, Recreation, Shopping and Food) Travel to Poland escorted by your private Australian/Polish director/tour guide, who lived in Poland, worked as a European tour guide, and speaks fluent/native Polish. Poland is currently the safest country in the European Union (no terrorist attacks ever!). If you are a foodie, you must taste delicious unique Polish food! If you have never stayed in a castle or a palace, you must do that too! Poland is one of the few European Union countries not using Euro. Poland's currency is Zloty and 1 Polish Zloty equals 0.37 Australian Dollar in 2018. It is cheap! Polish cuisine and culture was historically influenced by few Polish queens and kings, who were Italian, French, Swedish, Austrian and Lithuanian. Bona Sforza d'Aragona, the Queen of Poland from 1494-1557, has practically changed the Polish diet by introducing Italian style of cuisine, with fresh fruit, vegetables and olive oil. Polish cuisine back then was based on meat, beans, and some strongly-spiced foods. She started to grow her own vegetables in the garden near Wawel castle. At first the Polish nobles did not understand Bona’s diet, but with time, vegetables started to be more popular among Polish people. Nowadays, a basic bunch of vegetables that includes celery, carrot, parsley, and leek is called ‘‘włoszczyzna’’ (Italian). Polish cuisine has evolved over the centuries to become very eclectic due to Poland's history. It shares some similarities with German, Czech, Slovak and Silesian culinary traditions, but it has also been widely influenced by other European cuisines, such as Austrian, Hungarian, Jewish, French, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, and Turkish. Polish-styled cooking in other cultures is often referred to as à la polonaise. It is simply irresistible. Visit Krakow, Wieliczka, Częstochowa, Oświęcim, Zakopane and Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Re-energize in Poland's famous spas and Tatra Mountains. Follow the steps of famous Poles: * Frederic Chopin (composer of the famous Nocturne No. 20 in C-sharp minor, featured in the Roman Polanski film The Pianist), * Marie Curie-Sklodowska (the scientist, who discovered radioactive metals, such as radium and polonium, and developed small portable X-ray machines), and * Pope John Paul II, (born as Karol Józef Wojtyła), known to Catholics, as Saint John Paul the Great, appointed in 1978. He was the first non-Italian pope since 1523. Go on pilgrimage to the beautiful Jasna Gora Monastery in Częstochowa. Its famous image of the “Black Madonna” was so important to John Paul II that, after surviving the assassination attempt, he had his bloodstained papal sash hung next to the image in gratitude for Mary’s intercession in saving his life. Many Catholics go there to pray for health. Visit the Royal Castles in Warsaw and Krakow (Wawel), and the oldest underground salt mine in Europe, Wieliczka (UNESCO World Heritage listed). Enjoy the piano concerts with music by Frederic Chopin in Warsaw's Royal Łazienki Park and Żelazowa Wola. Visit famous jazz clubs in Poland, such as "Vertigo Jazz Club" in Wroclaw. Discover Polish Jewish Heritage including Schindler's Factory-Museum, Kazimierz and Warsaw’s new Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews awarded with the first Finlandia Prize for Architecture. Pay your respect at the former Nazi death camp, UNESCO World Heritage listed, Auschwitz Birkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940-1945). There is so much to do and see in Poland! Our Australian & Polish tour escort/tour guide has a Senior First Aid Certificate, Blue Card, and speaks fluent Polish. |
